Management of Asutifi North District Assembly and Safe Water Network on Wednesday 1, February held a community engagement with Nananom and the people of Gambia No.2.
This forms part of efforts under the Asutifi North Ahonidie Mpumtuo (ANAM) initiative to enhance the efficient provision of safe water through the expansion of the community’s water system.
District Chief Executive, Hon. Anthony Mensah addressing the gathering said, “Because the Assembly’s responsibilities are vast and we also have to tackle other important issues, we hand over the responsibility of water facilities after drilling to communities... Proceeds from the sales are used for maintenance and care of the facilities”.
“We are aware the main source of livelihood for people in this community is farming, which is seasonal. Leadership at the Assembly has therefore agreed to take up the cost of trenching, pipes, and meters”, he added.
Program Associate for Safe Water Network, Fortune Papa Ahiagble addressing concerns on the capacity of the project explained, “A new overhead tank will be built… Another borehole will be drilled and solar panels increased. At times when there are power fluctuations from ECG, power from the solar will be relied upon to pump water to your various homes”.
Akwamuhene and Chairperson for the engagement, Nana Osei Kwadwo in his remarks however called on the Assembly and Safe Water Network to hire youth from the community for labour purposes.
The project which is at the beginning of the execution stage upon completion is expected to be provided household connections for the community.
